About Us
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is a federal nonprofit agency based in the Pacific Northwest, primarily responsible for marketing wholesale electrical power from 31 federal hydroelectric projects in the Columbia River Basin. BPA also operates and maintains about three-fourths of the high-voltage transmission in its service territory, which includes Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and parts of Montana, California, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.
BPA is committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The agency focuses on integrating renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, into its power grid. BPA has been actively involved in fish and wildlife conservation efforts, investing in habitat restoration and species recovery programs to mitigate the impact of hydroelectric dams on local ecosystems.
In terms of sustainability reporting, BPA publishes an annual Environmental Stewardship Report, which outlines its efforts in reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy efficiency. The agency has implemented various programs to support energy conservation, helping customers reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.
While BPA does not have specific sustainability certifications, its initiatives align with broader federal sustainability goals and regulations. The agency's commitment to renewable energy and environmental conservation reflects its role in supporting a sustainable energy future for the Pacific Northwest.
