Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE)

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is a U.S. government agency under the Department of the Interior. BSEE is responsible for overseeing the safe and environmentally responsible exploration, development, and production of energy resources on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The agency's mission is to promote safety, protect the environment, and conserve resources offshore through vigorous regulatory oversight and enforcement.

Sustainability Efforts

BSEE is committed to sustainability and environmental protection. The agency enforces regulations that ensure energy companies operating on the OCS adhere to strict environmental standards. BSEE's efforts include:

  • Implementing rigorous safety and environmental management systems (SEMS).
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Promoting the use of best available and safest technologies (BAST) to minimize environmental impact.
  • Collaborating with other federal agencies, industry stakeholders, and environmental organizations to enhance offshore safety and environmental protection.

While specific ESG reports and carbon footprint calculations for BSEE are not readily available, the agency's regulatory framework and enforcement actions demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
