Job Description Summary:

The Woodworker plays a critical role in the U.S. Army's Enhanced Army Global Logistics Enterprise (EAGLE) Logistics Support Services contract by fabricating and repairing custom wooden containers for the safe transport and storage of materials. Using advanced techniques such as blocking and bracing, this position ensures materials are securely packed and protected during shipment. Responsibilities include precise measurement, cutting, assembly of wood components, thorough material inspections, and completion of shipping documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, design, and construct wooden crates, boxes, skids, and pallets tailored to specific shipment requirements.
Secure items within containers using custom blocking and bracing techniques to prevent movement or damage during transport.
Measure and cut wood components to precise specifications using hand tools and power tools, such as table saws and miter saws.
Assemble wood materials using nails, screws, and other fasteners, ensuring the structural integrity of the containers.
Safely pack items within containers, applying protective materials as needed to minimize the risk of damage during shipment.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to fabricate containers that meet exacting standards.
Inspect materials and complete required documentation to comply with U.S. Army shipping regulations, including the Solid Wood Packing Material (SWPM) Program.

General Duties:

Ensure all fabricated containers and packing methods meet shipping and transportation requirements for both CONUS and OCONUS destinations.
Operate and maintain woodworking tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform routine inspections of completed work to verify adherence to quality and safety standards.
Support contract objectives by maintaining compliance with applicable guidelines.
Collaborate with team members to address unique or complex packaging needs for specialized shipments.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Proven experience in carpentry or woodworking, including the ability to construct custom wooden items.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools (e.g., saws, hammers, drills) and power tools (e.g., table saws, radial saws).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and measurements.
Strong understanding of wood types, their properties, and appropriate applications.
Familiarity with safe woodworking practices and tools maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expertise in blocking and bracing techniques for securing items within shipping containers.
Attention to detail and precision in measuring, cutting, and assembling wood components.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with varying complexity.
Strong problem-solving skills to address unique shipping and storage challenges.
