Scope of Role: The Environmental Sustainability, Health & Safety (ESHS) Manager at Banjo leads the site ESHS program by ensuring compliance and building a safety-first culture through a systemic process-based approach and employee involvement. This is achieved primarily by partnering with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams but also by using strong influencing skills. Leads site efforts needed to comply with OSHA, EPA, ESG and IDEX requirements. The ESHS Manager serves an essential role in leading, partnering and supporting business driven technical and strategic initiatives included in the operating plan. This manager partners with site leadership to provide ESHS insight into overall planning, strategic direction, implementation and sustainment through training for the operations. This includes helping to ensure all equipment, physical structures, and layouts both protect the assets, guests, and employees, and conform to local, state and national regulations. They maintain effective vendor relationships that are needed to ensure compliance with EHS regulatory standards. The ESHS Manager acts as a key liaison with corporate in our ESG scope reporting and as leader of energy and emission reduction initiatives. Finally, the ESHS Manager will maintain and report all required environmental compliance documentation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in driving continuous improvement in key ESHS performance indicators (KPIs). Will also have experience in planning, directing, and overseeing vendor services, security and utilities programs.
Job duties:- Cultivate a safety culture that proactively drives zero workplace safety incidents
- Continuously enhance workplace safety through policy improvements, effective training, and technological advancements
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with safe workplace programs, policies and procedures that enhance incident prevention and compliance with company, local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Interface directly with all applicable environmental and safety regulatory agencies.
- Conduct or coordinate effective training for all employees in areas such as safe-workplace policies, practices, laws and regulations, emergency response, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment.
- Train and lead an employee based safety committee responsible for regular facility audits, safety upgrades, and on-going training and awareness
- Own the process for ensuring effective safety training for all new hires and on an ongoing basis in alignment with position specific and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures. Review and report findings from such investigations to leadership.
- Prepare and distribute periodic ESHS reports, including but not limited to incident reports and finding reports from incident investigations, monthly KPI reports, and facility inspections.
- Conduct periodic inspections/audits of the facility, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards. Inspections are to help ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulatory requirements.
- Assess ergonomics in the workplace to reduce risk of muscular-skeletal conditions.
- Review plans and specifications for construction or installation of new equipment to identify environmental and safe-workplace requirements.
- Manage worker's compensation claims in partnership with TPA to ensure appropriate employee care and timely claim closure. Collaborate with human resources in all situations involving modified work duty, work restrictions, or accommodation.
- Lead and develop employee wellness programs
- Lead sustainability initiatives and comply with ESG requirements for reporting
Maintenance and Facilities Partner: - Ensure that the facility complies with local, state, federal and regulatory codes and standards.
- Update SOPs and procedure documents as necessary.
- Lead efforts to ensure security measures and programs are current, well defined, and consistently applied. Audit the facility for compliance with company security standards. Provide training to workforce to ensure security practices are understood.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all interested parties relative to fire and security systems.
- Perform audits and training safety and various hazards.
- Educate on sustainability measures while soliciting ideas for new improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety or equivalent.
- 7 to 10 years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of local, federal and state regulations deep understanding of OSHA standards.
- Knowledge of worker's compensation processes and practices.
- Strong ability to influence behavioral change.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy safety programs in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong collaboration, communication, training and coaching skills.
- Good working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Some limited travel may be required.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:- Training as a first-responder or EMT/paramedic is not required, but preferred.
- Industry certifications are not required, but strongly preferred.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:- Able to work collaboratively, but can also lead a team.
- Able to motivate and drive others to deliver results by using influencing skills, mentoring, developing, and driving accountability.
- Possess a strong sense of ownership and drive to success utilizing available resources.
- Must have ability to address tactical issues in the short-term while maintaining long-term project plan.
