Job DescriptionDirector of SustainabilityThis newly created Director of Sustainability role presents an exciting opportunity for a champion of sustainable business practices to bring their experience and innovative mindset to our team. They will engage with colleagues across the Company and work closely with passionate and committed cross-functional teams to identify and implement sustainability opportunities that support Alkermes' overall environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy. They will play a key role in helping the Company to prepare for upcoming ESG-related disclosure regulations.
The Director of Sustainability reports to the Vice President, EHSS, Sustainability, Facilities and will be based in either our Ireland offices, or our Waltham, Massachusetts offices, with a hybrid working schedule.
ResponsibilitiesDuties/Responsibilities: - Act as the subject matter expert regarding sustainability, support capacity-building across the Company.
- Engage and influence colleagues across functional areas to identify opportunities that support the evolution of the Company' ESG strategy, while fostering a culture of sustainability.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to integrate sustainability considerations into business processes and practices, accounting for the Company's ESG commitments and long-range plans; support the preparation of policies and procedures accordingly.
- Monitor evolving sustainability regulations and communicate potential impacts.
- Work closely with key corporate functions such as Finance, Legal and Corporate Affairs to support the Company's preparations for upcoming sustainability disclosure regulations - particularly EU CSRD, US SEC and California Climate Bills.
- Prepare and manage a suite of accurate performance metrics across sustainability considerations; perform benchmarking studies and peer analysis as appropriate.
- Explore opportunities to enhance existing sustainability disclosures through voluntary reporting frameworks such as CDP, GRI, SASB.
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate and communicate opportunities to optimize sustainability across the Company's value chain, including:
- EHS, facilities, engineering teams in our direct operations, considering Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, waste, water use, biodiversity.
- Sustainability in the Supply Chain team regarding supplier sustainability capabilities and Scope 3 GHG emissions.
- Other key functions such as R&D and commercial.
- Implement sustainability awareness initiatives across the enterprise to heighten workforce engagement and promote innovation.
- Assess industry trends and the evolving regulatory landscape, communicate potential impacts to relevant stakeholders.
- Support annual Corporate Responsibility reporting.
QualificationsPreferred Qualifications/Key Characteristics- Strong strategic leadership skills, business acumen and executive presence.
- Effective stakeholder engagement/ influencing skills.
- Accomplished at working with external experts such as consultants and auditors.
- Comfortable leading and/ or participating in a matrix organization and cross-functional teams.
- Accomplished communication skills, confident at presenting to all levels in the organization, including senior executive.
- Strong project and team management skills.
- Structured approach to problem solving, data analysis and management.
Basic Qualifications, Experience- Bachelor's degree in an engineering, science or business discipline is required. Post-grad qualification/ Masters in a sustainability or related area is preferred.
- Minimum 8 years implementing sustainability strategies/ initiatives, ideally within a multi-national setting. Candidates should have strong experience influencing organizational sustainability.
- Deep understanding of sustainability related regulations in the EU and US, plus knowledge of voluntary frameworks such as TCFD, GRI, GHG Protocol, CDP, SASB.
- Pharmaceutical industry experience is an advantage.
TravelSome travel is anticipated, but it is not critical to this role.
