DescriptionYour role at GEI. GEI's Washington DC office continues to grow and is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Scientist, Engineer or Geologist within Metro DC or the surrounding areas of Virginia and Maryland to join our team. This individual will perform a broad range of environmental consulting duties to support our environmental due diligence, investigation, remediation, and permitting practices in Metro DC and surrounding areas.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties - Conduct, prepare, and implement environmental projects throughout the region.
- Describe and classify soil and collect soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis.
- Oversee monitoring well installation and interpret geophysical data.
- Report daily progress in the field to supervisor or project manager.
- Outline, compose, and present written observations based on site-specific data and scientific judgment using clear, concise, and persuasive writing.
- Perform data management and analysis, preparing reports, and assisting with preparation of technical presentations for delivery to clients and regulators.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors, coordinate the work, provide technical oversight to subcontractors, both in the field and remotely, including review of invoices and work proposals.
- Collaborate with various team leads locally and regionally to support various program initiatives and needs.
- Assist with preparation of permit applications to support project work.
- Travel to project sites and overnight stays required.
Minimum Qualifications - B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science.
- 2 to 8 years of progressive experience in the environmental field with hands on experience in field investigation methods and data analytics with a demonstrated safety culture.
- Experience with data analytical methods, various graphical presentation tools, and integrating information to support scientific conclusions.
- MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willing and able to travel on short-term and long-term assignments as needed.
- Ability to support with field oversight for an ongoing multi-year project located in Washington, DC.
- OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER.
- Valid U.S. Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with the investigation and remediation of former Manufactured Gas Plants.
