POSITION PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Aquatic Team Leader, the Aquatic Supervisor is expected to supervise assigned pool and ensure a safe, clean and enjoyable aquatic environment for YMCA members and participants; hire, train, schedule and supervise lifeguard staff; ensure that the aquatic environment is safe and healthy and that maintenance (filters, water quality) is maintained; promote and implement aquatics programs; ensure that aquatics programs and services are delivered in accordance with all YMCA Aquatic Safety Standards; serve as a role model and team leader for lifeguards by demonstrating exemplary job skills and behavior.
SHIFTS:Evenings 4:00-8:00 pm
Weekends
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS - Monitor all programs and staff in the pool assigned. Ensure program quality and monitor staff performance and member service.
- Develop relationships with members and obtain regular feedback on programs. Recommend program enhancements to ensure that member needs are being met.
- Supervise staff and ensure appropriate staffing of pool. Coordinate breaks and rotate staff.
- Assist in the delivery of aquatics programs and instructions.
- Ensure safety and prevent injuries by supervising pool area. Ensure no distraction or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.
- Ensure that pool staffing is within YMCA standards before leaving the area or performing maintenance items. Ensure security upon arrival and departure.
- Perform pool maintenance duties in accordance with OSHA Hazardous Materials Precautions.
- Perform water quality testing.
- Administer first aid to victims using OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Universal Precautions. Provide immediate care to sustain life until Emergency Medical Service arrives.
- Maintain current certifications. Maintain physical fitness. Perform endurance swims, rescue procedures upon request.
- Participate as a part of the aquatics staff team in providing a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Respect others by arriving on time and in accordance with schedule.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Provide excellent service to members and participants. Communicate all pool rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable.
- Maintain pool logs, incident/accident reports, locker room checks and other documents as required.
- May be required to pursue CPO certification and backwash pool filtration system and monitor pool chemicals.
- May be required to pursue PA Department of Agriculture Category 24 Pesticide Technician certification.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness in pool area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Provide leadership in the delivery of quality within the YMCA aquatic department.
- Ensure that all lifeguards/swim instructors are trained and provide programs that meet member needs and YMCA standards.
- Monitor all aquatic programs and staff for safety, quality and member service.
- Develop relationships with members and obtain regular feedback on programs.
- Provide program enhancements to ensure that member needs are being met in line with Association guidelines.
- Supervise staff and ensure appropriate staffing of pool and programs.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness in the pool area, locker rooms and adjoining locations.
- Complete weekly maintenance checklist. Complete pool logs on a regular basis.
- Ensure that pool staffing is within YMCA standards before leaving the area or performing maintenance items.
- Conduct lifeguard and safety audits daily.
- Perform pool maintenance duties in accordance with OSHA Hazardous Materials Precautions. Hose down pool deck, put away all equipment. Perform water quality testing. Perform regular surveys of pool and filter room.
- Serve as a member of the branch management team and Leader on Duty for the facility.
- Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
- Provide excellent service to members and participants. Communicate all pool rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable.
ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS - High School degree or equivalent.
- 2 to 3 years supervisory experience in related field.
- Current ARC Lifeguard/Water Park, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen certifications.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence.
- Acquire and maintain the required certifications listed.
