About the Position: This is a time limited position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to collecting FIA field data on Forest Inventory & Analysis plots, collecting Fell Tree studies data, and helping with Timber Production Output surveys. This position is 90% fieldwork located outside. It will require the successful candidate to travel overnight 50%-60% of the time until the candidate becomes certified with an FIA certification plot administrator by the USFS at the end of the 3 months of working for the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
What you'll need to be Successful: To succeed in forestry, one needs hard and soft skills, including ecological knowledge, technological proficiency, forest inventory and measurement, fire management, effective communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and empathy. These skills are crucial for navigating forestry challenges and contributing to forest preservation and management.
Preferred Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's Degree and 0-2 years of experience and licensure as a Registered Forester. Agency preferred qualifications:Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, 0-2 years of experience as a Forester or Forester Trainee, licensure as a Registered Forester, and a valid driver's license. It is preferred that the candidate reside in the North West Mississippi region.
