Requirements
- Implement and ensure compliance with INDEVCO North America's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
- Analyze, prepare, and maintain mandatory and regulatory safety and environmental reports and records.
- Manage Workers' Compensation loss control programs and reporting requirements.
- Direct the activities of safety committees and Emergency Response Teams (ERT).
- Develop and manage EHS annual budgets for each location, including expense and capital budgets.
- Ensure acquisition of required regulatory permits, submission of reports to regulatory agencies, and compliance with site permit conditions (e.g., Stormwater, Wastewater, Air).
- Achieve annual targets for incident frequency, severity, and cost reductions.
- Participate in formal EHS reviews of equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in site processes.
- Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
- Interface with regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, EPA, State/Local Regulators).
- Coordinate with outside plant vendors for monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections.
- Ensure safety compliance for outside contractors and visitors.
- Facilitate annual classroom and hands-on training at all locations.
- Serve as a resource to plant management teams regarding security operations.
- Develop, update, and implement security and loss control policies for employees, visitors, truckers, and contractors on plant properties.
- Conduct safety orientation for new employees.
- Administer the plant hearing conservation program and annual audiometric testing.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene and monitoring efforts.
- Conduct daily spot inspections and quarterly inspections with the plant insurance provider.
- Conduct quarterly Workers' Compensation file reviews with the insurance carrier.
- Support Quality Assurance efforts related to Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
- Assume operational and administrative duties in the absence of the shift supervisor.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Job Dynamics & InterfacesInternal: Human Resources, Production, Logistics, Maintenance and Engineering, Purchasing.
External: Company Vendors, Subcontractors, Insurance & broker representatives, State and or Federal Compliance officers.
Travel: Up to 50% - Job is based in Doswell, VA but will travel to the other sites as needed.
Required Job Qualifications & Competencies Education & Experience• Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Engineering and or Management preferred.
• Professional EHS certification is preferred (CIH, CSP, CHMM, and / or PE).
• 7+ years' professional safety experience in the manufacturing industry.
• Proven track record in driving cultural change in EHS.
• Experience in packaging or food manufacturing environment preferred.
• Functional EHS Knowledge in regulatory requirements, EHS technical aspects (safety, industrial hygiene, environmental), risk management, behavior-based safety, training, auditing / program review, regulatory agency enforcement, EHS vendor / consultant management, business knowledge required.
• Strong communication skills, as well as excellent management skills.
