GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of a faculty principal investigator, plans and executes engineering research activities such as design of experiments and apparatuses, development of methodologies and standard operating procedures, field and/or laboratory data collection, instrument/equipment maintenance and calibration, troubleshooting and problem solving, and contributes to project reporting. Relevant domains may include areas of structural, construction, geotechnical, environmental, and/or architectural engineering.


The salary for this temporary  role is $10,000 and is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related science or engineering field
Knowledge & Skills
  • Prior experience with operating and troubleshooting research instrumentation and routine lab/field equipment and tools
  • Interest and willingness to learn new equipment and skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Ability to organize and coordinate scientific and/or engineering research projects
  • Ability to use independent judgement to develop concepts and approaches for research
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and data collection and analysis
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel locally (with valid driver’s license)

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility
  • Plans and executes engineering research activities, requiring judgement in development, application, evaluation, selection, adaption, and modification of standard engineering and scientific techniques.
  • Applies analytical approaches to problem solving in field and laboratory settings.
  • Demonstrates and applies thorough understanding of science and engineering research methods, protocols, use of instrumentation, and data collection and interpretation.

Key Responsibility
  • Independently performs most research assignments with instructions as to the general results expected, under faculty supervision and guidance.
  • Designs, performs, and/or oversees engineering experiments, tests, and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Coordinates engineering research activities and exchanges information, ideas, and techniques to complete projects and solve problems.

Key Responsibility
  • Reviews and evaluates results and conclusions of research projects.
  • Assists in writing and preparing research proposals.
  • Maintains currently of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, instruments, systems, and processes.

  • Oversees maintenance, scheduling, and calibration of research equipment.
  • Performs miscellaneous jobs-related duties as assigned.
  • Interacts with undergraduate students, graduate students, research personnel, and faculty in research settings.
