Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering, including coursework in hydraulics/hydrology. Five years of increasingly responsible experience in civil/environmental engineering or closely related field; one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional Engineer license required. Strong PC skills and experience with hydraulic modeling software required. Excellent verbal/written communication skills and experience in working with engineers, developers, contractors, and the public are essential. Certification by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as a Stormwater Management Plan Reviewer is required within the first 12 months of employment.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Duties Managing a team of Senior Engineers responsible for the review/approval of engineering plans for residential subdivision and linear project development in the County, ensuring that plans comply with State and Federal requirements for erosion control and stormwater management, to include the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, as well as with the County's Stormwater Management and Water Quality, Floodplain Management, and other applicable ordinances. Conferring with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors. Responding to inquiries or complaints from the public pertaining to erosion control and drainage issues. Developing and enhancing the skills of subordinates and coworkers. Performing other work as required.
