We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee safety and environmental compliance for a large-scale infrastructure project. As a key member of the project team, the EHS Manager will be responsible for managing safety programs, monitoring environmental impact, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements. The role will focus on proactive safety measures, hazard prevention, and maintaining environmental standards throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Key Responsibilities: - EHS Strategy Development and Implementation:
- Review and develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS programs to ensure the health, safety, and environmental protection of all personnel involved in the infrastructure project.
- Establish clear safety goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) in alignment with the project's scope and industry regulations.
- Work with senior management to define EHS policies and strategies to align with both the consultant's standards and project-specific requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure the project complies with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant environmental and safety laws.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS legislation and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and mitigate potential regulatory risks.
- Coordinate and oversee all required safety inspections, audits, and documentation.
- Prepare and submit periodic EHS reports to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Hazard Identification and Risk Management:
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits to identify potential risks related to construction activities, equipment, and environmental impact.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including engineering controls, safe work practices, and emergency response plans.
- Lead the identification, evaluation, and control of potential hazards related to the environment, equipment, and workplace operations.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all project personnel, including contractors and subcontractors, to ensure awareness of safety procedures, emergency protocols, and environmental considerations.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to the project teams to ensure that safety policies are followed and that workers understand potential hazards and safe practices.
- Monitor the effectiveness of training and continuously improve programs to address any new risks or challenges.
- Accident Investigation and Incident Reporting:
- Lead investigations into any safety incidents, accidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all incidents as required by law and project specifications.
- Establish and maintain a corrective action plan, including incident prevention strategies and improvements to safety practices.
- Environmental Impact Management:
- Develop and implement environmental protection plans to mitigate the environmental impact of the infrastructure project, including waste management, air and water quality control, and habitat preservation.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives, minimizing the project's environmental footprint.
- Monitor and manage the disposal of hazardous materials and waste, ensuring compliance with local environmental laws and safety standards.
- EHS Communication and Coordination:
- Act as the main point of contact for all EHS matters on the project, communicating effectively with the project team, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with the project management team to integrate EHS considerations into all stages of the project, from planning and design to execution and handover.
- Promote a culture of safety by encouraging proactive safety awareness and continuous improvement.
- EHS Auditing and Performance Monitoring:
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and site assessments to evaluate the performance of safety measures and environmental controls.
- Track and report on EHS performance, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring that corrective actions are taken.
- Review and analyze safety and environmental data to track trends, incidents, and areas of concern, ensuring that project risks are minimized.
Position Requirements Qualifications: - Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or certifications in EHS management is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 3 years in a senior role on large infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, utilities, or commercial construction).
- In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, construction site safety practices, and environmental protection standards.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and managing subcontractors and vendors.
- Proven track record of implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring regulatory compliance on large-scale projects.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other local or international safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and enforce safety and environmental protocols.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Proficiency in EHS management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certifications in environmental or safety management are highly preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification or equivalent.
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
Working Conditions: - Occasional travel to other project sites.
- Ability to work in a construction environment, which may include exposure to various weather conditions and physical demands.
