Job Summary: The Assistant Manager Environmental Safety supports Environmental Health and Safety, as well as the Environmental Manager by providing knowledge and expertise in areas of environmental programs with a focus on compliance. Performs field work daily to ensure compliance is met as well as assignments are thoroughly completed with professionalism.

Additional Department Summary: The candidate must have a strong understanding of environmentally focused local, state, and federal guidelines. Field work may include, but is not limited to, assessing, analyzing, sampling, collecting/collating environmental data, and reporting activities related to such daily functions to the Environmental Manager and EHS leadership. Additionally, the Environmental Assistant Manager must complete facility/asset inspections and audits pertaining to environmental safety equipment and programs (ASTs, USTs, Stormwater, IAQ, Hazardous Waste, etc.) and provide related data back to leadership associated with these environmental findings. The Assistant Environmental Manager will assist the Environmental Safety Manager with the development and implementation of environmental programs, documents, policies, and effective EHS training programs as related toward Environmental Health and Safety topics and provide this training for campus partners, employees, and students. The Assistant Manager for Environmental Safety must serve as a resource and collaborative partner to campus constituents regarding environmental health and safety matters and emphasizing a culture of environmental stewardship and compliance throughout the University campus. The Assistant Manager for Environmental Safety is required to maintain communication accessibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and may be required to respond to emergency situations after hours.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of hazardous waste, general safety, life safety, environmental hazards, laboratory safety, or occupational safety experience; OR Associate's degree and four (4) years of hazardous waste, general safety, life safety, environmental hazards, laboratory safety, or occupational safety experience; OR Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of hazardous waste, general safety, life safety, environmental hazards, laboratory safety, or occupational safety experience; OR master's degree and some of hazardous waste, general safety, life safety, environmental hazards, laboratory safety, or occupational safety experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under of 21 will have some restrictions.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Extensive experience in fieldwork related to environmental safety. Works independently with outside consultants, contractors, and legal counsel. Past experience in assembling and assimilating technical information for permitting activities. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong Microsoft Office computer and organizational skills as thorough documentation is required for reporting. Superior time management skills as this position will require working with various groups of people in a professional manner, handling several work tasks concurrently. Excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of problem-solving skills. The applicants for this position must be able to work with minimal supervision, taking the initiative to evaluate and drive improvements.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with statistical analysis and preparation of reports, compliance files/records and required documents for regulatory agencies within stated deadlines. Experience performing industrial hygiene related reviews and sampling/testing. Certifications related to environmental, health and safety field work, asbestos abatement, lead-based paint remediation, or mold remediation, Hazwoper Training. Experience with review of tanks, (AST/UST), confined space evaluations, stormwater management plans, injury/illness reviews, or operation of equipment used in the identification or review of chemical, biological, or radiological agents. Experience as part of an emergency response team. Experience in leadership and management.
