REPORTS TO: Aquatic Center Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:The Swim Lesson Manager will be responsible for the management and operations of the swim lesson program at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Duties specific to the Swim Lesson Manager position:
- Lead staff through professional attitude and superior job performance
- Directly supervise Swim Lesson Instructors
- Determine the assignment of Swim Lesson Instructors based on program needs
- Schedule private swim lessons
- Communicate with swim lesson parents
- Complete appropriate documentation including incident and accident reports, instructor evaluations, and other documentation as assigned
- Address customer requests and complaints in a courteous and thorough manner, involving managers as needed
- Wear proper uniform while on duty
- Comply with all Village policies, protocols, and procedures
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Adhere to Swim Lesson Instructor Duties as Follows:
- Be familiar with swim lesson levels/curriculum and use course materials effectively
- Provide instruction to varying ages
- Begin and end class on time, remain after class to answer participant and/or parent questions and clean up supplies
- Educate participants on proper technique and promote swimmer safety at all times
- Maintain accurate and neat progress cards, certificates, and attendance information
- Ensure all teaching areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are returned to designated locations
- Communicate openly and in a positive manner with parents of participants to provide constructive feedback regarding student skills and progress
- Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:The wage range for this position is $18.50-$19.50 per hour. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position requires management responsibilities of a supervisory nature. Incumbents must be proficient in basic concepts relating to personnel management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Must be able to successfully complete American Red Cross Certification Community First Aid and Safety
- Completion of American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding preferred
- Prior experience as a swim lesson instructor required
- High school or college education in progress or completed
This position requires the following.
- Ability to positively interact with the public
- Ability to lead small group and individual swim lessons with varying ages
- Ability to complete and maintain swim lesson paperwork
- Must be able to attend all mandatory meetings and instructor development sessions as scheduled
COMPUTER SKILLS:Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn how to navigate and utilize the CivicRec registration system for program rosters and Point of Sale.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to properly fill out incident and accident reports as well be able to communicate in an emergency situation
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITIES:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES: - Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and of the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center

The noise level in the work environment varies between moderate and high. Frequent exposure to natural and seasonal weather conditions as well as insects while guarding the pool and completing job duties.
