Job Description
Assess and analyze institutional inefficiencies as it relates togreen initiatives. Creatively develops, maintains and enhances sustainability solutions/programs at Harper College.Develops training, educational programming and marketing materials to advance the progress of the College's Climate Leadership Commitments. In collaboration with senior administrators, staff, faculty, and students, incorporates sustainability values and practices into the College's strategic planning processes, the management of its resources and operations, the curriculum, and extra-curricular life.
Defines goals, performance metrics and a long range plan for sustainability at Harper College. Evaluates program effectiveness, documents performance trends, and recommends and implements modifications to improve program effectiveness, including research and writing sustainability reports to communicate sustainability progress on campus.
Responsible for developing and monitoring the college Institutional Effectiveness Measures (IEM) for Campus sustainability.
Works with faculty to find ways to infuse sustainability projects into the classroom. Assists faculty with bringing sustainability hands-on student learning experiences into their curriculum. In conjunction with faculty, orchestrates the implementation of student research projects into campus action that will advance Harper's progress toward reaching its carbon neutrality goals.
Develops, designs, facilitates and implements projects that promote employee engagement surrounding campus sustainability initiatives.
Develops and manages sustainability programs and outreach events to educate the campus community about various sustainability topics and advises and mentors student clubs and organizations as they implement sustainability programs and events on campus.
Manages sustainability budgets and grants; verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds as appropriate. Identifies and pursues grant funding or other savings programs.
Leads the College's participation in energy curtailment programs and serves as the college representative to the administrating organization contracted by the college to reduce energy in periods of grid stress.
Provides internal and external presentations to educate the Harper community about sustainability and Harper's sustainability programs, including presentations and sustainability education to in-district K-12 students. Builds and Maintains relationships with community partners.
Develops and updates sustainability indicators and measurable data for areas such as energy and materials usage, waste generation, etc. to document achievement of the College's sustainability agenda; reports program performance regularly.
Coordinates the campus data collection process and serves as the college representative to Sightlines to conduct yearly greenhouse gas (GHG) reports. Audits and tracks progress of GHG emissions reductions mandated by the college through the President's Climate Commitment.
Works closely with various campus services departments to identify, initiate, support, and institutionalize resource conservation policies focused on waste reduction, energy and water conservation, environmental purchasing, dining services, landscaping, etc.
Serves as Harper's representative to the Chicagoland Network of Sustainability in Higher Education (CNSHE) and Harper's Network Affiliate of the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN).
Chairs the Sustainability Work Group and serves as a permanent member of campus Facilities Committee.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies or Related Field.
Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as is the ability to read, write and speak English. Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook is mandatory as is the ability to become proficient in job required software applications.
Experience:Minimum two year's experience required. Knowledge of sustainability issues and best practices and commitment to institutional and societal sustainability, particularly as related to higher education. Experience working in collaboration with multiple entities in the development and implementation of programs and services desired. Experience in strategic planning;project management; team management; problem solving and idea marketing preferred. Higher education experience preferred.
