Description Under general guidance from the Director, plans, administers, and directs the daily activities of the Senior Environmental Health Specialist, Environmental Health Specialist, Environmental Compliance Inspector, and Environmental Technician. Responsible for all Plan Review and Certificate of Occupancy inspections of all permitted food establishments. Enforces environmental health codes and regulations of the Town, state, and federal agencies. Investigates alleged violations of local ordinances to determine compliance
Examples of Duties - Coordinates and supervises daily work activity of Environment Health Specialists.
- Conducts plan reviews of all new and remodeled permitted food establishments and public pools.
- Conducts pre-opening and Certificate of Occupancy inspections of food establishments and public pools under construction to ensure compliance with current requirements.
- Assists with and prepares administrative assignments.
- Supervises the food-establishment inspection program, on-site sewage facility (OSSF) program, grease trap inspections, and vector control program.
- Supervises water well drilling regulations/permitting.
- Respond to requests for service and information from citizens, staff, and other Town personnel.
- Assists Director of Environmental Services in preparing division budget.
- Performs administrative-level personnel duties.
- Assists other co-workers as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications - A Bachelor's degree in biological science, physical science, or related field is required.
- Must be certified as a Registered Professional Sanitarian by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Must have a valid state issued driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
- Must obtain Designated Representative Certification from the TCEQ (on-site sewage facility inspector status) within one year of employment.
WORK EXPERIENCE:- Over four years of environmental health work and/or code enforcement experience is required.
- Over one year supervisory or management experienced is required.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:- Must have knowledge of principles and practices of environmental sanitation; diseases and their transmission and control; federal, state, and local laws pertaining to public health; structure and functions of public health organizations and community interrelationships; current social and economic problems related to public health.
- Must be able to recognize faulty or hazardous conditions created by deterioration or misapplication of regulations, to enforce codes with impartiality and efficiency, to establish and maintain accurate records, and to complete document/records research and field investigations.
- Must be skilled in dealing with public relations problems and in providing public education.
- Must have excellent communicative skills, both oral and written, to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Bilingual communicative skills are preferred.
- Must have basic skills in personal computer operations to include Microsoft Word.
- Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directives; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor at all times; and work various hours including weekends and evenings.
- Must be able to learn and interpret related ordinances and codes and procedures for handling code and ordinance violations.

- Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs. of signs, equipment, etc.; work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, and unstable and muddy terrain; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather, hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances and exposure to insects, noxious plants, snakes, etc.; walk, bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, climb.
