Work Location: New York, NYThe Solar Operations Manager will monitor assigned solar projects in the Northeast U.S. and Ontario, Canada to ensure optimal generation performance of the company's solar photovoltaic (PV) sites. Overall responsibilities will include field supervision of solar technicians and O&M providers, oversee remediation and/or repowering efforts, operational performance analysis and reporting, support in preparation of Expense and Capital budgets.
The Solar Operations Manager will work closely with the Asset Management, Sr. Operations Manager and other Operations team members to achieve Solar performance goals.
Responsibilities- Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager to perform day to day management duties for a small team(s) of solar technicians in execution of operation, monitoring and maintenance of PV solar sites.
- Lead solar team to meet or exceed Safety & Health, Environmental and Security objectives.
- Contribute to the development of site operating and safety procedures
- Provide in field support and management to site technicians or O&M providers to ensure assigned assets meet or exceed the weather adjusted performance targets; monitor assigned assets, identify underperformance and production issues, work with vendors as needed, to identify and execute remediation
- Travel to project sites to verify general condition of the projects, oversee large scale remediation and/or repowering efforts when needed
- Maximize the total returns for each asset through the analysis of system efficiency and identifying opportunities for improved performance
- Create operational reports on assigned solar projects as needed
- Review performance reports and project specific performance data; Investigate issues, support troubleshooting and initiate actions to improve performance
- Track, specify and execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities with support of field technicians and/or contracted personnel
- Support development & management of Expense and Capital budgets
- Support reviews and tracking of operating expenses incurred by assets
- Ensure regulatory, interconnection and HSSE compliance
- Ensure assets are operated and managed consistent with TerraForm's Policies
- Support management of relationships with external key stakeholders, including but not limited to property owners, PPA off takers, utilities, ISOs, local and federal governments, permitting and regulatory agencies;
- Provide timely work products to support management and reporting of operating assets
- Execute procurement and accounts payable activities consistent with this role
- Authorize time entry for subordinates
- Maintain or establish good working relationship with equipment manufacturers, service providers and other key industry players.
- Support site purchasing and procurement activity.
Requirements- Proven ability to work well within field support team and direct work of others (remotely and on-site).
- Demonstrated commitment and participation in developing an accident-free work environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Technical understanding of solar generation; Familiarity with computerized DAS/SCADA/Monitoring systems, Medium Voltage equipment and operation, interconnection agreements and data management a plus.
- In field / hands on experience in solar operations and maintenance activities for solar ground mount, canopy and roof-top solar sites
- Ability to define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and develop sound solutions
- Travel between assigned sites is expected (30-50% of time)
Qualifications- At least 4 years' experience in solar O&M support
- At least 2 years' experience supervising a solar site maintenance team
- AAS Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent training in Solar PV systems (NABCEP certification, SEI certification), or Journeyman Electrician licensure.
- Technology savvy, intermediate computer skills
- O&M experience in utility or commercial scale solar
- Experience in green field and/or brownfield development is an asset
- Knowledge of solar monitoring platforms (e.g Also Energy, Power Factors), a plus.
Salary range: $125,000-$140,000
