What we are looking for:As the Marketing Unit Forester you will assist in State Forest Management. The primary functions are performing the various technical tasks associated with the sale of forest products and related silviculture to implement the Northwest Oregon Forest Management Plan. Duties Include:
- Timber sale planning and preparation.
- Contract Administration.
- Technical Decisions related to contract compliance, harvest design, road location, environmental protection measures, and estimate of timber size, grade and defect.
- On the ground decisions relative to contract compliance with Oregon Fire Laws and Forest Practices Rules.
- Technical Decisions related to contract compliance, harvest design, road location, environmental protection measures, and estimate of timber size, grade and defect.
- Prepare sale contracts/permits for timber salvage and other miscellaneous forest products by estimating volumes, laying out boundaries and appraising values.
- Assist with planning, preparation, administration, and data management, of easements, special use permits, land exchanges, and other land management activities.
Minimum QualificationsA bachelor's degree in
Forestry or a closely related natural resource program.OR
Three years of experience in
Forestry or a closely related natural resource program.Note: Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver's license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:- Skill using computer programs to manipulate, enter, or retrieve information.
- Skill communicating verbally and in writing with a variety of people to answer questions and explain information.
- Skill gathering and analyzing technical or scientific information and drawing conclusions or making recommendations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Northwest Oregon Forest Management Plan.
- Ability to collect stand data and information so stands can be evaluated, harvest prescriptions created, and sub-basin harvest schedules can be determined.
- Ability to perform field inspections of timber sales to check compliance of the contract.
