Position OverviewProject Engineers will work as part of a project team to deliver a variety of stream and wetland restoration projects for both public and private clients across the Southeast and grow key relationships with new and existing clients. This work will include but is not limited to geomorphic assessments, stream and wetland restoration design, permitting, bid phase services, construction observation and post-construction monitoring.
Key Responsibilities - Resolve both technical and design problems and work collaboratively on all aspects of project execution.
- Work independently as well as effectively communicate and collaborate with City and McAdams staff methodology and approach for projects.
- Project Engineers are expected to complete (design complete/ready for construction) 8 to 12 minor CIP/drainage projects per year. This requires flexibility and multitasking of multiple projects at one time.
- Compose comprehensive technical reports related to existing conditions analysis and proposed recommendations.
- Design and produce civil engineering construction documents (site plans, utility plan/profile, design reports, specifications).
- Project Engineers shall be proficient with the following applications and able to perform engineering evaluation, calculations, reports, in support of project design: AutoCAD Civil 3D and embedded hydrology and hydraulics software, ArcGIS, StormCAD, FlowMaster, HY8, CulvertMaster, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, AdobePro, Excel, and other various public applications.
- Develop exhibits utilizing GIS software that incorporate both existing and proposed land use data, as well as drainage area information.
- Effectively communicate engineering concepts to property owners and stakeholders across various roles, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Proficient in the design and preparation of construction plans for storm drainage projects.
- Delineate watersheds and prepare time of concentration calculations.
- Gutter spread calculations and analysis.
- Pipe video assessment and analysis.
- Understanding of SCS and Rational methods.
- Design of rip rap aprons.
- Communicate to the public regarding project-specific information representing City Storm Water Services.
- Knowledgeable in water quality buffers and environmental permitting processes, with an understanding of local and FEMA floodplain regulations.
- Storm drainage and culvert design.
- Stormwater control measure design.
- Site grading, earthworks, and sediment/erosion control design and permitting.
- Coordination with contractors, utility representatives, property owners, and other stakeholders.
- Work per McAdams and City of Charlotte standards with the project team from the concept phase through construction administration for a variety of projects.
Skills + Experience - Four-year bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
- PE required or ability to obtain within 1 year or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of related experience and/or training
- Rosgen or equivalent stream restoration training
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS
- Possess technical expertise in engineering and design as it applies to stream and wetland restoration
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with the ability to carry a project through the design process independently and within a team framework
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage and grow key relationships
- Proven knowledge of budget impacts and profit and revenue expectations
- Ability to effectively lead a production team
- Ability to develop proposals or contracts that ensure the contract scope is adequate for the project, provide the desired level of profitability, and ensure that the project schedule is viable
- Understanding of business initiatives and concerns of current and prospective clients to recognize and promote new opportunities and cross-sell other services provided by the firm
- Assist in the development of short-term and long-term strategic market sector plans
