General SummaryReports to supervisor. Employee coordinates the collection, sorting, disposing, and transporting of Regulated Medical Waste, Solid Waste, and Recyclable materials from main building and outlaying buildings by following Federal, State, and local law. Employee will conduct all activities according to the delivery and collection schedule and adheres to J&J policies and procedures. All personnel will participate in the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen training prior to start of employment and annually thereafter. Employees will follow safety regulation and must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and frequently wash hands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Completes all required mandatory safety training per government and J&J prior to handling waste materials.
- Practice work place safety.
- Keeps trash carts clean and sanitized after each shift.
- Disposes of waste materials/recyclable items according to set policies and procedures.
- Monitors equipment operation and reports malfunctions and other maintenance and repair needs to supervisor.
- Keeps trash room/chute and ground area clean.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous waste.
- Ensure that hazardous waste containers are removed by vendor once they are full.
- Operates recycling processing equipment including but not limited to balers and crushers, and compactor.
- Removes and breaks all empty boxes from floors and transports to recycling bale.
- Maintains recycling area in a clean, well organized manner avoiding clutter and potential fire hazard.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements- High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital/health care environment as RMW/Solid Waste/Recycling collector.
- Knowledge in all types of medical waste and SOP for disposing and transporting
- Must be able to communicate, read, write, and understand English language.
- Individual is a team player.
Work Environment- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Be able to stand extended period, bend, push, pull, kneel, stretch and exposure to elements such as heat, cold noise, dust, dirt etc.
