Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud platforms and services that millions of people use every day.
Within CO+I, the Cloud Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team focuses on preparing for ESG requirements and market expectations, and ensuring timely and accurate disclosure. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Senior Data Manager to oversee ESG data management and governance. This role is critical in driving our sustainability initiatives and ensuring that our data management practices align with our ESG goals. The successful candidate will have a background in data management, governance, and a passion for ESG and Sustainability. The individual will also be responsible for engaging with stakeholders across the business group to improve data maturity and drive audit readiness, in addition to enabling data analysis and performance tracking towards Microsoft's sustainability commitments and regulatory requirements.
As part of this team, you will collaborate across a broad set of stakeholders within CO+I and Microsoft. You will support the ESG Data Management governance processes, draft data protocols for streamlined data collection across the organization, assess data for gaps, inconsistencies, improved accuracy and availability with a focus on cross-functional relationships and company-wide alignment.

- This role is located in one of the following hub locations : Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX, Washington, DC or Phoenix, AZ.
- Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates are required to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
- This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.
Responsibilities:Success in this role means CO+I has ESG data that is robust, accurate, consistent and is easily available at the right level of granularity following the required methodologies and easily flows through an end-to-end ESG data management process that reduces the burden on data owners across the organization and is constantly revisited for opportunities to automate and rapidly scale to meet customer, policymaker and investor ESG data expectations and you empower the ESG reporting team with quality data that supports Microsoft's ESG leadership position.
- Oversee ESG data management and governance within CO+I to ensure data quality, integrity, audit readiness and security.
- Engage with stakeholders across the business group to improve data maturity and drive audit readiness.
- Enable data analysis and performance tracking towards Microsoft's sustainability commitments and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and sustainability experts, to define and execute data management plans.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely and comprehensive collection of required data.
- Implement and uphold data management best practices to maintain the accuracy,completeness, and reliability of ESG data throughout the collection process.
- Prepare content for senior management review and approval, communicate progress & performance and share insights from ESG data initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
Qualifications:Required/Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Data Science, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of experience in data management, with a focus on sustainability and ESG data and reporting.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience managing complex data management projects, with experience in stakeholder management, project management and change management.
- 3+ years of experience with data governance frameworks and improving data quality, traceability and audit readiness.
- 2+ years of experience in data analysis and data visualization with technical expertise in data modeling and leveraging data to garner actionable insights to drive actionable decisions.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Sustainability, Data Science, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in data management, with a focus on sustainability and ESG data and reporting.
- Experience working in the technology industry, particularly in a cloud computing environment.
- Experience with external-facing sustainability or ESG reporting Frameworks (e.g., Task Force for Climate-Reflated Financial Disclosures (TCFD); Climate Disclosure Project (CDP); etc.)
- Certification in data management, change management or project management. Further data management certifications are an advantage.
Business Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.
