Job DescriptionThe Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an entry level materials engineer to join the Corrosion and Cladding Development Unit to conduct research and testing of reactor core materials with a focus on irradiated cladding. Specific responsibilities include: planning and sponsoring sample fabrication and characterization efforts, specifying conditions for irradiated testing, communicating instructions for examinations, analysis/dissemination of results in collaboration with other test sponsors, and reporting/presentation of results. The successful candidate will join a team of engineers studying cladding corrosion and will have opportunities to collaborate and develop a diverse skill set, focused on areas of personal interest.
Required Combination of Knowledge and SkillBachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.
Preferred Skills - Materials engineering, chemical engineering, or nuclear engineering degree or experience
- Experience/coursework in materials testing and characterization, including metallography, electron microscopy, corrosion testing, design of experiments, and analysis of test results
- Understanding of material fabrication processes, materials behavior, and material properties
- Experience/coursework related to Python (or other programming languages) and/or use of databases
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Pay Range$62,000.00 - $94,900.00 annually
