BIOLOGIST MANAGER / COASTAL WMA's & REFUGESThis position is a Wildlife and Fisheries Biologist Manager domiciled at the Lafayette office and receives direct supervision from a Biologist Program Manager. This position exercises broad stewardship and management responsibilities over a number of Department owned/managed properties in Coastal Louisiana including Atchafalaya Delta, Lake Boeuf, Pass-a-Loutre, Pointe-aux-Chenes, Salvador and Timken WMAs as well as Marsh Island, State Wildlife, St. Tammany, Queen Bess and Isle Dernieres Barrier Islands Refuges. WMAs/refuges are located throughout southcentral and southeastern Louisiana and consists of habitats ranging from swamp to brackish marsh habitats. The selected candidate may directly and indirectly supervise lower level biologists, wildlife and fisheries technicians/technician supervisors, maintenance foremen, mobile heavy equipment operators and marine operators assigned to these coastal WMAs/refuges. This position serves as advisor to the Coastal Lafayette Region program manager regarding projects and programs to manage fish and wildlife resources, improve/restore wetland habitats and enhance public usage of coastal properties. This position will also work with local, state and federal agencies as well as NGOs for projects, funding, etc.
Job duties require the incumbent to exert brief periods of heavy muscular or strenuous physical exertion. Some job activities require extended work hours and weekend work. Job activities also require the incumbent to be capable of riding in helicopters and/or fixed wing aircraft as well as all types of vessels. The incumbent may also be required to participate in aerial waterfowl surveys. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to respond to nuisance or injured wildlife calls as needed which often require after hours and weekend work. Overnight travel for multiple days at remote areas and throughout Louisiana will be required. Working in the field, out of boats, at night and in inclement weather will also be required.
