DescriptionOrganization Summary:Founded in 1993, Civic Works strengthens communities through education, skills development and community service. Our Center for Sustainable Careers (CSC) includes our workforce development programs, and Energy programs. CSCs workforce development programs focus on expanding access to family-sustaining careers for Baltimore residents facing significant barriers to quality employment. CSC supports participants in developing both technical skills and soft skills, and earning marketable certifications, all while providing wraparound case management and job placement services.
Civic Works' Energy Programs social enterprise is leading efforts to ensure that local residents are able to both reduce their energy costs and decarbonize their homes. These programs make it easy and affordable for community members across Central Maryland to go solar and upgrade their energy efficiency. As an integral part of Civic Works' Center for Sustainable Careers, the Energy Programs also plays a pivotal role in expanding access to quality careers in the clean energy sector. Position Summary:Civic Works is hiring a Clean Energy Project Manager to lead the development, implementation, and expansion of innovative training initiatives designed to meet the evolving demands of the clean energy industry, starting with the launch of Civic Works' new Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Technician Training. As the Clean Energy Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that access to careers in clean energy are accessible for all, with a strong focus on equity and inclusion.
Key goals include integrating the new EVSE Technician Training into Civic Works' existing programming, identifying key areas for program expansion, and promoting cross program collaboration. The ideal candidate is comfortable launching new initiatives and leading complex projects while working both independently, and in collaboration with internal program staff across various teams and function areas.
Primary Responsibilities:I. Lead Implementation of Civic Works' EVSE Technician Training - Oversee the launch and execution of the EVSE Technician Training Program, ensuring alignment with grant objectives.
- Track and manage program performance metrics, including enrollment, completion rates, and job placements, to meet grant requirements.
- Purchase necessary supplies and materials while adhering to procurement policies and maintaining accurate expense documentation.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, using data to inform continuous improvement and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Coordinate with internal program staff to address challenges and deliver project milestones effectively.
- Prepare and submit timely grant reports and deliverables to funders and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement employer partner engagement and outreach strategies in collaboration with program staff, including identifying and vetting new employer partners.
II. Identify Opportunities for Future Expansion - Research and identify emerging trends and workforce needs in clean energy to inform the development of new training initiatives.
- Lead efforts to expand training in areas such as electrification, weatherization, and other clean energy sectors.
- Explore and develop an in-house apprenticeship model focused on electrical, HVAC, and other trades related to residential decarbonization.
- Identify opportunities for enhancement of current curriculum and training, including battery storage integration within the solar curriculum.
- Identify business opportunities aligned with emerging clean energy technologies to enhance CSC's YouthBuild program by providing valuable on-the-job training experiences for participants, and generating revenue to support the program's growth.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:Civic Works values both formal education and real-world experience and skills. Skills and competencies gained through direct experience can significantly complement, and in some cases surpass, academic credentials. While educational thresholds and years of experience are listed, the primary focus is on demonstrated ability and proficiency in acquiring new skills.
- At least 3 years of program and/or project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee program implementation, monitor outcomes, and align deliverables with funding objectives.
- Experience managing complex projects and collaborating with external partners, and/or internal team members to achieve goals.
- Experience creating and documenting program policies and procedures, or leading process improvement initiatives and contributing to efficient workflow design.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Google Suite required.
- Experience supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplace or community settings.
- Familiarity with clean energy technologies, EVSE systems, and workforce training programs is a plus, but not required.

Work Schedule:- Schedule and Travel: The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday. Occasional travel to meet with external partners offsite may occur.
- Hybrid Work Policy: The Clean Energy Project Manager is eligible to work from home up to 4 days per week, and works at least 1 day per week from Civic Works' office in Baltimore City. This position may need to work from the office 5 days per week during the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment training periods (3 weeks long; 2-3 times per year).
