With this backdrop, Microsoft's Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Environmental Sustainability (ES) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company - engaging with business groups to set goals for reducing the environmental impacts of business operations and increasing positive environmental outcomes from technology and policy development. This team is focused on driving progress in global sustainability by enabling Microsoft, customers, and the world to achieve critical environmental outcomes.
As a Sustainability Insights & Strategy Business Manager, you will be a key member of the Commitments and Data & Reporting team with the opportunity to influence the broader strategic and operational needs within CELA ES team and its partners. We are looking for someone who can be creative and innovative in analyzing business priorities and challenges and have organizational and execution skills to take ideas from concept to implementation. CELA ES works at a fast pace, within a complex matrix and is responsible for some of the most critical environmental decisions. To be successful, candidates should love variety in their day-to-day work, be keen to stretch their skills and their minds, be comfortable working in dynamic and ambiguous situations, and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
This role will be based in our Redmond, WA office location.

Responsibilities:- Apply financial and economic acumen to ensure we are quantifying our investments and driving a positive Return on Investment (ROI) for each business case
- Provide strategic counsel and technical expertise to the Commitments and Data & Reporting team on all aspects of the sustainability agenda, including goal setting, program development, technical standards, and reporting. Stay current on the latest developments in sustainability, including monitoring and analyzing the competitive and regulatory landscape, identifying best practices, tracking emerging trends, and surfacing opportunities for improvement.
- Responsible for supporting the responses to stakeholder questions/communications
- Advance impact through stakeholder engagement. Establish review mechanism of insight, metrics and actions contributing to business and team performance
- Identify business priorities that align with the evolving sustainability landscape and determine the best ways to engage with our finance counterparts
- Lead the evolution of the team culture with an aim of achieving best-in-class organizational health

Qualifications: Required/Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in sustainability/project management.
Preferred Qualifications - Depth of knowledge of sustainability fundamentals, including key areas of sustainability accounting (GHG Protocol, SASB, GRI and TCFD standard reporting), carbon reduction, carbon removal, carbon-free energy, water, and waste.
- Proficient communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to tailor messages and influence diverse audiences.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with ability to synthesize complex information and provide clear and actionable recommendations.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, cross-group collaboration, communications, analytical capabilities and attention to detail
- Passion and proven record for execution with measurable results; focus on delivering impact.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, innovation, and the ability to motivate, inspire, and lead cross group/functional teams with a high degree of independence and success
- Ability to work successfully across a complex, highly-matrixed environment
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity
- Excellence and experience in managing operations and budget planning
Business Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
