GENERAL PURPOSEThe Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Facilities Operations Manager with the day-to-day shift operations of the aquatic centers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDuties include, but are not limited to:- Leads the daily operations as a shift supervisor on duty to include all guest activities involved with the aquatics programs in the aquatics centers to include: overseeing the teaching, coaching, instructing and assisting with lessons, water aerobics and other programs and special events at each location in accordance with Town affiliated and authorized instructional guidelines and protocol.
- Facilitates the safe handling of chemicals used in the pools.
- Monitors the water chemistry of the pools on a daily basis and makes chemical adjustments when necessary.
- Ensures that all aspects of the aquatic facilities are clean and in safe working condition.
- Performs maintenance as needed in the pump rooms and on the pool deck.
- Ensures that all applicable codes including Board of Health, Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) and other regulatory guidelines are enforced.
- Performs administrative duties to include the accurate completion of: purchase order requisitions, Jeff Ellis and Associates reports, zone validation reports for lifeguards, accident and incident reports, etc.
- Creates the schedules for the lifeguards and assists the Assistant Aquatics Manager with the processing of time cards for payroll, and the training of new lifeguards and in-service training of current employees.
- Regularly performs lifeguarding role including patron supervision during shift.
- Attends meetings, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises part-time aquatics center employees during shift. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous aquatics, facility management and supervisory experience is required. Certification as an Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is desired. Previous supervisory experience is required.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESOther Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.
- Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Rec Trac.
- Licensure as an Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor is required.
- Licensure as an Ellis & Associates Swim Lesson Instructor is required.
- Certification as an Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is required.
- The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment within established protocols and guidelines is required.
- The ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of current principles, codes, and safety protocols and risk management relating to recreation facility operation and programs is required.
- The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required.
- The ability to demonstrate satisfactory performance ratings on all safety and operational audits including program instructional audits is required.
- The ability to follow instructions regarding the use of pool chemicals is required.
- The ability to operate water analysis equipment to ensure proper water chemistry is required.
- A working knowledge of the maintenance and repair of pool equipment is desired.
- A general understanding of accounting principles and practices and report writing, while paying close attention to detail is required.
- The ability to resolve conflicts between employees and between employees and guests is required.
- The ability remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements is required.
- First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications are required.
- The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.
- The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
While the Aquatics Center is usually open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. both for indoor year-round operations and seasonal outdoor operations, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It may also require the ability to drive Parks and Recreation Department vehicles. Thus, a valid driver's license may be required.
