This is a full-time, Non-Represented role. The salary grade for this posting is 4027. The salary range is $78,898 to $100,247. Please note that the final salary will be determined by our Classification and Compensation team after reviewing the candidate's experience and considering our internal salary equity.
Job Summary:
Oversees the School District of Philadelphia’s environmental management program. Involves environmental regulatory compliance specific to local, state and federal laws/rules pertaining to air pollution, water pollution, toxic substances and hazardous waste. Manages specific capital environmental projects, and in doing so, manages the work of multiple professional services consulting firms, abatement contracting firms and all associated technical staff engaged in asbestos abatement, lead paint, indoor air quality, geotechnical investigations and hazardous materials management and emergency response activities. Ensures contracted asbestos work projects remain on schedule and that work projects are completed in accordance with all applicable regulations. Apprises school administrators and district officials of planned environmental projects. Develops, manages and conducts mandated programs and routine awareness training seminars for asbestos, lead and universal waste.
Essential Functions:
- Manages the work of a technical staff engaged in asbestos abatement, indoor air quality, geotechnical investigations and hazardous materials.
- Develops technical bid documents for asbestos abatement and geotechnical remediation capital projects.
- Ensures asbestos and geotechnical work projects remain on schedule and that work projects are completed in accordance with all applicable regulations.
- Apprises school administrators and district officials of planned environmental projects.
- Conducts meetings with administrators, consultants, union officials, community members, and representatives of government and business agencies and the general public providing information on environmental programs, decisions and policies pertaining to the District’s environmental management program.
- Addresses environmental concerns such as indoor air quality, lead paint and lead in drinking water; contacts firms to work on environmental issues associated with specific capital budget projects, investigate environmental conditions of properties which the District may acquire, and manages air monitoring activities during asbestos abatement projects.
- Keeps abreast of current environmental issues and changes in environmental regulations.
- Reviews and modifies District environmental policies and procedures to achieve compliance with laws and regulations.
- Prepares reports identifying areas in which upcoming legislation will necessitate new compliance programs and projects.
- Attends community meetings to discuss environmental projects.
- Coordinates environmental activities with the District's Facilities & Operations Divisions.
- Performs related duties as required.
