SUMMARYHauls materials used in the automotive manufacturing using tractor trailer rig including roll off boxes. Provides the highest level of customer service at all times. The responsibilities of this position include performing all functions in compliance with Department of Transportation and Company Safety regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Follows all Department of Transportation as well as all GMI, Inc. Safety rules and procedures.
- Observes all Safety rules and procedures of any given facility that is being served.
- Operates tractor truck with one or two containers (trailers or roll off boxes). Transport from a designated facility as requested by customer. Pick up full container of scrap metal and drop off empty container.
- Reports all accidents and near misses immediately to Transportation Supervisor.
- Obtains all shipping bill of lading and/or weight tickets. Provide to customer. Maintain an up-to-date daily transaction logbook.
- Reports all customer issues immediately to Transportation Supervisor.
- Supports 5's of operational areas as well as company vehicles.
- Performs miscellaneous service duties such as checking oil, water, gasoline and air in tires, on a daily basis. Reports all maintenance or tarp system malfunctions immediately to Transportation Supervisor.
- Participates in job rotation to ensure qualification and skill for both trailer and roll off efficiency.
- Participates in group meetings, training, and continuous improvement program.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or GED; 3 months related experience and/or training; CDL is required, but experience driving tractor trailer and operating heavy equipment is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, quality manuals, operational procedures and work instructions. Ability to complete necessary documentation. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of the organization. Ability to understand and to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Knowledge of metric system.
REASONING ABILITY- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS- Basic computer skills including word processing.
OTHER- Basic understanding of machine operation and conditions.
