Key Responsibilities: - Collect Recyclables: Gather recyclable materials from designated areas across the campus, ensuring compliance with the New Mexico Solid Waste Act.
- Operate Equipment: Use recycling equipment and vehicles, including baling machines, forklifts, and trucks.
- Promote Recycling: Engage with employees, answer questions, and promote the recycling program.
- Monitor and Recommend: Observe the flow of recycled materials and suggest improvements for bin placement and pickup frequency.
- Handle Hazardous Materials: Safely dispose of chemicals and medical materials that are improperly placed in recycle bins.
- Prepare Materials: Prepare cardboard and other materials for recycling.
- Ensure Safety: Handle equipment and supplies with care, following all safety procedures.

Conditions of Employment
- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong communication skills (oral, written and computer).
- Knowledge of recycling policies and procedures.
- 6 months of relevant experience (physical labor and/or customer service).
