Primary PurposeThis position will collaborate with the Director of Corporate Sustainability and the department to support development and implementation of enterprise-wide environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sustainability programs and activities. Support the department's objectives and targets in alignment with the long-term strategic vision, manage progress, and deliver best-in-class results for Sempra. Oversee key metrics, data, program initiatives, industry best practices, research, and analyses to provide strategic guidance to the department, Director, and Chief Sustainability Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and develop executive meeting materials and presentations, review and maintain company policies, and lead special projects, initiatives, and programs to achieve sustainability-based targets and objectives.
- Support development and preparation of the annual corporate sustainability report, facilitating alignment with enterprise-wide sustainability targets, key milestones, strategies, and processes.
- Conduct strategic research on sustainability-based environmental, social, and governance trends, management practices, technologies, resources, and practical applications.
- Develop high-quality sustainability messaging for external engagements and internal partners. Serve as a resource for Sempra's operating companies involved in sustainability activities. Collaborate with management and staff to position the company as a sustainability leader. Maintain a professional network to support information sharing and collaboration.
- Engage in the selection, planning, and execution of key annual events, providing overall guidance to the team to ensure the achievement of the company's sustainability objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of work experience in Environmental Studies, Economics, Sustainability, or related field is required.
Experience- 3-5 years of experience managing projects, conducting research, performing data analytics, and delivering management presentations is required.
Skills and AbilitiesThe following skills and abilities are required:
- Strong project management skills with excellent organizational abilities, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suites, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with diverse individuals. Capable of motivating and persuading others.
- Broad understanding of climate data and sustainability metrics.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in public speaking and presentations.
- Proficient in software systems such as Power BI, Visio, and Monday.com.
Other Qualifications- Travel may be required, typically less than 5% of the time, for conferences and meetings. A valid Class C driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary to use company vehicles for these trips. Attendance at meetings at other facilities within the Sempra family of companies may also be required.
- Annual attendance at sustainability-focused technical conferences, both within and outside of California, may be required one or two times per year.
- Occasional attendance at company-sponsored sustainability events outside of typical business hours (e.g., evenings or weekends) may be required.
- Occasional field-based visits to projects or facilities under construction, or to observe sustainability projects or programs in operation (e.g., waste diversion, vegetation management), may be required. These visits will be limited in duration and may involve easy to moderate hiking.
