Environmental Scientist - Ecologist
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Experience in Florida native and invasive species plant identification
- Familiarity with the current U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) listed species regulations and guidelines
- GPS data collection skills
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Ability to traverse wet and/or rugged terrain in diverse, sometimes inclement, weather conditions while carrying up to 50 lbs
- Experience operating basic hand tools and smaller equipment
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word and Excel required)
- Availability and willingness to travel, as needed
- Valid Driver's License with the ability to drive a company vehicle and an acceptable motor vehicle record
Desired Capabilities and Credentials:
- Professional certification for FWC gopher tortoise authorized agent preferred or ability to obtain
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or other applicable environmental certifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree related to the Environmental Studies or Biological/ Ecological Sciences preferred
- Minimum five (4) years’ experience with wetland delineations, permitting and listed species surveys in Florida or related experience required
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
