Position will be open until filled.We are currently seeking: A gardener to join our team and, under general supervision, perform general labor and maintenance of City public gardens, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Your responsibilities will include:- Performing manual labor tasks in order to maintain clean, safe, attractive and user-friendly City public gardens; maintaining greenhouse, gardens, lawns, flower beds, and other cultivated areas as assigned; following all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents.
- Assisting with garden and greenhouse planting, soil preparations, and implementation of projects.
- Performing a variety of garden and grounds maintenance activities, including fertilizing, weed control, pest control, mowing, trimming and watering procedures.
- Cleaning up trash and debris; pruning and trimming bushes and flora; planting and extracting flowers and plant life; loading and hauling materials.
- Utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed; reporting problems and emergency situations; recognizing, avoiding, and reporting unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Assuring that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
- Hours: Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (30-minute lunch). May work weekends, holidays, and some over-time as needed.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements and Skills:- Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:High School diploma or equivalent; and prefer two years of general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:- Work is performed outdoors; Ability to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; work in extreme weather conditions as needed, and lift and carry up to 94 pounds.
