The Sustainability Manager leads the company's environmental and sustainability enablement programs. This pivotal role will set the overarching strategy for both areas, establish and monitor long-term and short-term company targets, provide technical and regulatory expertise, to enable achievement of BMR's sustainability goals. The successful candidate will engage and influence colleagues at all levels, across all Divisions, to support the sustainability journey and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards. This role will also provide administrative support for the President/CEO and Brundage Mountain Resort GM, through responsible communication and coordination with owners and outside organizations to facilitate the execution of the organization's strategic initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for environmental performance and sustainability enablement.
- Set and monitor long-term and short-term targets to achieve BMR's sustainability goals.
- Engage and influence colleagues at all levels, across all Divisions, to foster a culture of sustainability and compliance within the organization.
- Collaborate across departments and with leadership to develop long-term strategies, goals, and annual action plans.
- Provide expert knowledge on environmental risks across the organization and maintain appropriate assessment, governance and escalation processes to ensure leadership and the wider organization are focused on appropriate priorities.
- Ensure operations comply with regulatory and company standards.
- Stay current with evolving sustainability reporting requirements, and ensure the company meets these requirements.
- Create and maintain sustainability metrics, reporting, and data submissions to internal and external stakeholders, including Brundage and NSAA.
- Conduct regular audits, including bi-annual greenhouse gas inventories, waste and energy, and provide department-specific recommendations to reduce emissions and environmental impacts.
- Identify best practices through research and analysis, recommending innovative sustainability strategies for improvement.
- Provide training, education, and resources to employees and stakeholders to promote sustainability awareness and engagement.
- Lead special projects and data collection efforts to enhance the overarching sustainability program.
- Engage with stakeholders, internal and external partners, to foster support and collaboration on sustainability initiatives.
- Participate in grant development opportunities to secure funding for sustainability programs.
Administrative duties:- Proactive communication and coordination with members of company ownership group on benefits, events, committee meetings, and various operating and development activities.
- Coordination of activities with the Adams County Planning and Zoning administrator.
- Weekly communication with the Brundage planning team and outside partners to provide status reports on submittals, review by the County and related parties, and data requests from those same parties.
- Weekly coordination with the CEO and GM on schedule and activities for each week.
- Calendar management of the CEO and GM for business and related business activities.
- Responsible for materials, digital filing, coordination, and follow-up on all BMH owner group and individual owner meetings.
Job Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, or related field preferred.
- Sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, GRI, or ISO 14001) are a plus.
- 2-5 years of experience in a sustainability or ESG role; experience in ski area management is highly desirable.
- Proven expertise in benchmarking, analysis, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and align stakeholders on strategic outcomes.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with sustainability reporting tools.
- Ability to travel as required.
