ESP Associates, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Water Resources Engineering Specialist, in our Raleigh, NC (Morrisville) office. This is a great opportunity for an early-career professional with a passion for Water Resources to join a well-established team!
Team Members will have an opportunity to focus on Stormwater Design or Modeling/Mapping. Projects will include: Stormwater Design: stormwater management, stormwater detention and facilities (e.g., SCM, BMP, GI, LID), planning studies, erosion and sediment control, and water quality studies through planning, designing, O&M development, regulatory compliance and permitting.
Modeling / Mapping: a variety of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, floodplain mapping and flood mitigation studies, flood warning, municipal stormwater, risk and hazard analysis, GIS data capture and analysis, and similar projects for a variety of public and private clients.
Responsibilities:Modeling / Mapping:- 1-D and 2-D Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling in support of FEMA floodplain studies, risk and hazard analyses, and flood mitigation studies
- GIS processing for H&H model creation and mapping product development
- Technical review of studies/modeling submitted by others for DOT bridge replacements and FEMA Letter of Map Revisions (LOMRs)
- Municipal stormwater design support
- DOT hydrologic and hydraulic design
Stormwater Design: - Assist in preparation of: H&H models in both 1D and 2D, water quality modeling/assessments, geospatial evaluations, design plans (e.g., Municipal, DOT designs), specifications, and cost estimates in support of civil, drainage, stormwater projects, watershed studies, stormwater masterplans, FEMA flood studies, flood resiliency projects, and capital improvement projects in addition to the other items.
- Assist in preparation of: Analyzing system flows for drainage, surface waters, flood risk, and mitigation alternatives.
- Assist in performing calculations and making recommendations on concerns regarding erosion, drainage, flooding, etc.
- Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling performance.
- Assist in producing designs, completing inspections and technical reviews/assessments of storm sewer line replacement and extension, and stormwater facility conversions and retrofits, bridge scour, studies/modeling, SCMs, land development plans and specs.
- Assist in addressing local, state, and federal flood management regulations such as providing MS4 and other regulatory compliance, permit support and coordination with multiple agencies.
- Assist in preparation and reviews easement, encroachment, and permit documents.
- Assists in preparation of bid documents and manages the bid process for rehabilitation and capital projects as assigned.
- Participate in field work, site visits, and data collection in a variety of areas and weather conditions.
Qualifications:- BS in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
- 0-2 years of experience in water resources related work or graduate-level coursework while pursuing MS degree in any/some of the following areas:
- Hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis
- Stormwater management
- Flood mitigation
- Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
- Must be able to travel on an as-needed basis. Travel is estimated at 25% (primarily local travel).
- Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
Preferred:- MS in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
- EI or EIT certification
- FEMA flood studies, floodplain analysis, and hazards analysis experience
- DOT roadway drainage and/or bridge/culvert design with scour assessments
- Knowledge of stormwater management, NPDES permitting, and water quality modeling
- Software Experience:
- Surface water analysis using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1-D and 2-D)
- ESRI ArcGIS
- XPSWMM
- InfoWorks ICM
- AutoCAD Civil3D
