SUMMARY-The Assistant Chemical Engineer works alongside the Mill Chemist and production team in order to maximize safety, quality and production. The Assistant Chemical Engineer will help oversee the management of all chemical systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)-
The Assistant Chemical Engineer's primary responsibilities as part of the mill operational team include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining safety standards in the chemical areas
- Maintaining chemical inventories
- Maintaining chemical delivery systems
- Determining, reporting and optimizing chemical costs
- Evaluating trials
- Training operators on chemical and general technical concepts
- Monitoring, maintaining and reporting Air and Water Permitting
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE-The educational requirements are four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Pulp and Paper Science,
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
The experience requirements are five years of Paper Mill Chemical experience or Chemical Technical Service. Paper Mill experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS-The candidate must speak and write English at a college level.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-The candidate must be able to solve college level mathematical equations. The candidate must be able to use college level algebra, geometry and calculus to solve problems in the mill.
REASONING ABILITY- The candidate must be able to use knowledge of papermaking and papermaking chemistry to solve process, equipment and quality problems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is required.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS- Employee will be measured on the performance goals listed above.
