Under limited supervision, assists with plans and development, research, extension, public information through mass media, and nuisance abatement activities region wide. Assists with the creation of plans and conduction of research, survey, and management programs throughout the region, and develops comprehensive wildlife management plans for private landowners, hunt clubs, and others. Supervises technicians, and project laborers as required by the magnitude and scope of ongoing and developed projects and programs. Promotes cooperative relationships between GA DNR WRD and other agencies, industries, landowners, and managers to strengthen conservation and enhancement of wildlife habitats and populations, and wildlife associated public recreation opportunities. Obtains public input and recommends hunting and public use regulations based on biological and sociological information available.
Based on education and experience, this position will be filled at the Wildlife Biologist 1 or Wildlife Biologist 2 level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NRP060 - Wildlife Biologist 1
Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
NRP061 - Wildlife Biologist 2
Master's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university
AND
One year of related experience.
OR
One year of experience required at the lower level Wildlife Biologist 1, (NRP060) or position equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to applicants with:
• Master's degree in Wildlife Biology/Management or Forest Resources
• Experience in game/forest management techniques
• Wildlife monitoring and research experience
• Wildlife habitat management experience
• Computer software and mapping experience (e.g. MSWord, Excel, Access, and ArcGIS)
• Wildlife technical guidance, public speaking, and nuisance wildlife abatement experience.
• DNR/WRD employment experience
Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
