Description
POSITION SUMMARY:Administers policies and procedures that cover functional areas in the Environmental, Health, and Safety job family to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. Makes sure employees in functional areas follow established procedures and ensure company compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Performs hazard identification, hazard evaluation, hazard elimination, or mitigation to an acceptable level, for all systems, operations, procedures, equipment and products for ARC Automotive Knoxville.
- Performs periodic, special, and follow-up inspections for the purpose of discovering and correcting unsafe acts and hazardous conditions before they cause accidents.
- Ensures total compliance with all aspects of the Hazard Communication Standard, including but not limited to: assessing the hazards of chemicals used or manufactured; disseminating information to employees and customers; employee training, and labeling of containers and products.
- Conducts accident / incident investigations, prepares and submits reports. Reviews injury / illness statistics to determine causes and corrective action to prevent recurrence. Performs follow-up to ensure performance of corrective action.
- Coordinates, administers, and conducts safety training geared toward eliminating unsafe acts and hazardous conditions.
- Develops and administers policies and procedures required to ensure compliance with Company policy and all local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations, including strict adherence to all requirements of the DOD, DOT, and OSHA contractor's Safety Manual.
- Acts as a liaison, interfacing with representatives of outside agencies, including, BATF, OSHA, DOT, DCAS, Safety Consultants, Insurance Carriers and customers.
- Provides assistance in evaluating requirements contained in RFQ's, RFP's, contract clauses and government safety regulations.
- Advises, assists, cooperates and coordinates with other members of the organization to ensure a comprehensive, consistent and cohesive approach to safety and environmental issues.
- Provides safety coordination for plant inspections of insurance underwriter, ARC audit or other regulatory agencies.
- Recommends requirements for safety equipment, assures availability and use.
- Assures adequate fire protection activities, air and water pollution control.
- Gathers data necessary for permit applications, reporting requirements, waste disposal, "right to know", and maintains permits and all MSDS sheets for chemicals used in ARC Automotive.
- Ensures a working knowledge of present and proposed regulations.
- Provides guidance and motivation to plant employees relative to housekeeping, safety committees, safety meetings and any other programs deemed necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS*:Requires a bachelor's degree in Safety, Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering, and six (6) to eight (8) years of experience preferably in a chemical, explosive, or manufacturing environment or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to do the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work will take place in a combination office/shop environment. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays, and be on-call on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personnel protective equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work weekends, holidays, or be on call. Overnight travel is required as necessary.
