Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions: Performs unskilled manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of walkways, parks, lawns, ditches, curbs, and gutters; picks up litter and empties large trash cans; mows grass, uses weed-eater and edges; trims plant material; digs holes and ditches with a shovel; cleans exterior of buildings; pressure wash buildings and sidewalks; prepares planter beds for planting; plants and maintains flowers, trees, and shrubs; tree trimming; loads and unloads heavy and bulky objects and materials from trucks.
Other Job Functions: May operate light duty equipment on relief, training or emergency basis; cleans and properly maintains tools; cleans swimming pools; bags leaves; fills out vehicle maintenance reports; replenishes supplies; maintains effective working conditions of necessary tools and equipment. Working ConditionsWorks inside and outside in all kinds of weather; is exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat, constant noise, dust, and dirt; must be available to work from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; must be available to work overtime as needed.
Minimum Essential QualificationsKnowledge: Some knowledge of manual tasks involved in lawn maintenance and custodial duties; knowledge in the operation of a motor vehicle; knowledge of safety precautions needed to operate lawn equipment and hand tools.
Skills/Abilities: Must have ability to interact effectively with the public and other employees; must be able to safely operate mowers, weed-eaters and hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, pruning shears, and wrenches; must be able to drive trucks, vans or cars; must be able to read, write and make decisions.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently kneels, reaches, stands, stoops, squats, twists body, carries up to 56-70 lbs., holds up to 56-70 lbs., pushes up to 41-55 lbs., lifts up to 56-70 lbs., pulls up to 41-55 lbs. and drags up to 56-70 lbs.
Education/Experience: High school graduate or equivalent and minimum six (6) months experience performing manual labor; minimum six (6) months experience in lawn maintenance preferred.
OtherMust possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
