This posting will be used to fill 13 positions across the state of South Carolina.Job Purpose:This position serves as a Junior Soil Evaluator for the Bureau of Regional and Lab Services, Onsite Wastewater Program. You will be performing inspections and complaint investigations in support of SCDES' roles and responsibilities for overseeing the protection and preservation of South Carolina's environment and natural resources.
Job Duties: - Conducts system layouts and permits suitable sites according to state regulations and policies.
- Conducts inspections of installed onsite wastewater systems to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Investigates complaints, determines validity, and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
- Prepares reports and referrals of a professional and technical nature for enforcement activities. Recommends corrective actions for violations.
- Provides consultation to the regulated community and public on state laws, regulations, and standards.

Minimum and Additional Requirements - A high school diploma or GED and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
- A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications - One or more years of environmental working experience.
- Familiarity with onsite wastewater methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Training or experience in describing or classifying soils.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
