Job Summary Reporting to the Recycling Program Manager, the Recycling Coordinator will assist with the planning and execution of outreach and education programs for municipalities served. This role will focus on conducting commercial and residential waste assessments, administering recycling programs for schools, businesses, multi-family units, and government entities, and managing waste stream reduction efforts. The Recycling Coordinator will also maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with various stakeholders to promote and enhance recycling efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Outreach & Education: Lead community outreach, education programs, and events such as presentations, workshops, and training to raise awareness on waste stream reduction and recycling initiatives.
- Compliance & Audits: Conduct site visits, audits, and waste assessments for residential, commercial, and multi-family properties to ensure compliance with state and local legislation, including SB 1383, AB 341, and more.
- Customer Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for recycling services, ensuring the satisfaction of customers and maintaining positive relationships with residents, business owners, and community members.
- Program Management: Coordinate new recycling programs, service levels, and special events. Prepare progress reports and track program effectiveness.
- Legislation Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on relevant regulations and legislation impacting recycling and waste diversion efforts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with City staff and other departments to address customer concerns, implement new programs, and ensure proper documentation.
- Vehicle Operation: Drive a company vehicle to perform site visits, audits, and outreach activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications- Knowledge of:
- MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe), Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
- Recycling laws and regulations (AB341, SB1383, etc.).
- Community outreach strategies and event planning.
- Skills in:
- Exceptional communication, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Creative and proactive in generating new ideas and solutions.
- Ability to handle customer inquiries and complaints.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Experience:
- 1+ year in the waste management industry or in a public/community outreach role.
- Valid Class C Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
Education- High school diploma or GED required.
Physical Demands- Occasional to frequent lifting (up to waist height).
- Ability to move briskly and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Occasional bending, gripping, and walking for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
