JOB SUMMARY:This position will assist the Aquatic Manager in managing the Ballwin Aquatic facilities including planning, scheduling, organizing and supervising swim lessons, aquatic/fitness programs, activities and special events, which meet the leisure needs of the community. Also share in the facility supervision of both City of Ballwin facilities, including openings, closings, MOD shifts as well as assisting with some programs and special events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- The Aquatic Specialist will assist the Aquatic Manager in: planning, implementation, and supervision of aquatic programs, additional program initiatives, special events, and daily operations.
- Recruit, train, certify, schedule, and evaluate aquatic staff; maintain payroll and staff certifications.
- Ensure safety through emergency action plans, regular training, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Oversee pool operations, including chemical levels, facility inspections, and equipment maintenance.
- Resolve patron issues, foster a positive community culture, and manage marketing/publicity for programs.
- Maintain records, budgets, program registrations, and collaborate with community organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:The position will have responsibility for supervision of day-to-day operations including operation of aquatic facilities, manager on duty shifts at The Pointe at Ballwin Commons and North Pointe Aquatic Center, Recreational Program development and implementation, staff training, cash drawer checks and closeouts.
Maintain all required certifications included but not limited to Certified Pool Operator (CPO), Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), First Aid, CPR and AED.
EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB:- Rescue Tube, Spine Board, Resuscitator Mask, Automated External Defibrillator, Pool Vacuum, Various Small Tools, Computer, Copier and other various office equipment.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
- Possess a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent lifeguard certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in lifeguarding, lifeguard supervision, and aquatic facility operations is required
- Possess or earn within 6 months a valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
- Possess or earn within 6 months a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification.
- Possess or earn within 6 months a valid Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) certification.
- Must have a current driver's license.
- The ability to perform moderate physical labor as necessary and able to lift up to fifty pounds.
SUPERVISORY DUTIESSupervises and gives work to part-time, seasonal, and contractual employees and explains routine methods. Specialists have accountability for the quality and quantity of the output of others under their direction. Solves problems and makes appropriate decisions while manager on duty and while supervising programs under their direction. Responsible for quality assurance and user input in areas under their supervision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES- Experience in aquatic facility operations, water chemistry, and compliance standards.
- Leadership in staff management and training, with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in recreation software (e.g., RecTrac), Google Workspace, and marketing tools (e.g., Canva).
- Flexibility to work varied shifts and environments, with excellent problem-solving and interpersonal abilities.
