We are seeking an experienced Certification and Compliance Manager to advance our quality and environmental culture, onboard facilities to meet certification requirements, audit quality and environmental programs, and support the overall Quality and Environmental Management Systems across our operations.
This role will have a broad impact on our Corrugated Operations, supporting corporate, mill, and plant-level compliance needs. Travel to Hood Container Corporation plants across the U.S. is required, up to 70% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:Quality & Certification Compliance- Work with plants to assess and close gaps in food safety compliance, preparing them for food safety certifications.
- Conduct food safety certification audits to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Audit Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) / Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified plants for adherence to chain of custody standards.
- Onboard new plants to the FSC/SFI Chain of Custody Multi-site certificates and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
- Implement and maintain Hood Container Corporation's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Train employees at all levels on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques and compliance best practices.
- Manage the RCA program, including tracking progress and follow-ups on corrective actions.
- Conduct internal QMS audits to evaluate plant compliance.
- Lead testing programs including standard caliper, ECT, and BCT to ensure product integrity and quality.
Environmental & Sustainability Compliance- Support plants in environmental compliance audits related to waste management, water usage, emissions, and sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, including EPA, state, and local requirements.
- Assist in the implementation and management of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Lead training and awareness programs related to environmental responsibility, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor environmental performance metrics and collaborate with teams to drive continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:- Experience in quality management systems and environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of corrugated containers and packaging regulations.
- Proficiency in food safety standards or FSC/SFI Chain of Custody certification requirements.
- Ability to train and engage employees across all organizational levels.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong background in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to travel up to 70% (domestic, via air and car).
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in environmental auditing, compliance, or sustainability programs.
- ISO 14001 certification or experience in environmental management systems.
- Lean Six Sigma training or experience in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Certified Auditor in Safe Quality Foods (SQF) or similar food safety standards.
- Knowledge of corrugated displays and packaging innovations.
- Bilingual in Spanish (verbal and written) is a plus.
