Description Burns & McDonnell is seeking to hire experienced Piping Engineers for our Oil, Gas & Chemical global practice. As a Piping Engineer, you will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments throughout the refining, midstream, chemicals and renewables market sectors. Our Piping Engineers work on project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting piping plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. Our Piping Engineers support the execution of multi-disciplined EPC projects that range in value from $1MM to > $2B.
Responsibilities to include:
- Development of project deliverables such as Design Basis, Coatings and Insulation Specifications, Piping Stress Analysis packages, Pipe Material Specifications, Procurement Specifications, and all associated material reports.
- Working with buyers to develop purchase orders to support the procurement of all project piping materials, including participating in kickoff and pre-fabrication meetings to ensure vendor alignment with project documents.
- Establishing the project quality and NDE requirements for all piping materials and working with Supplier Quality to ensure all materials are supplied and fabricated per code and owner's engineering standards.
- Drawing and design development will be by others, but the Piping Engineer will be responsible for reviewing all piping drawings to ensure code and owner's standards compliance, and that flexibility and structural integrity requirements have been met with associated pipe stress analysis.
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used piping engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the piping engineering services industry.
- Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations at client jobsites.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications - Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. May also have a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. A Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of mechanical piping engineering experience required, consulting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.3
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, Hexagon Products, Ceasar II, Nozzle Pro, etc.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Professional Engineer license (P.E.) Strongly Preferred
