Site Safety Manager role for our Novo Nordisk project, and various other work for our NC Regional Office.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:- The Site Safety Manager works independently under the direction of the Region EH&S Manager to perform multiple tasks, supporting many disciplines within the field Rigging & Crating group.
- Primary responsibility is to support field operations through site inspection, safety compliance, site investigation for incidents involving employees, material and equipment damage. Must support an incident and injury-free field operation of MEI sites and promote continuous growth safety culture.
- Effectively communicate all MEI EHS policies, guidelines, procedures, including regulatory changes and new business growth.
- Support MEI sites with all customers, and OSHA required training (Site Specific, Protocol, OSHA, Forklift, Etc.).
- Provide program, technical, and administrative support of management systems directed by the Region EH&S Manager.
- Work collectively with the Region EH&S Manager, safety, and operations teams manage all incidents and accident cases through investigations and root cause analysis.
- Manage site incident prevention program (SIPPS), Hot work permits, Confined Space, HAZCOM, Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS's), and other applicable safety regulations. Coordinate with our customers in support of on-site safety initiatives, unique site conditions and mitigation of risk.
- As needed develop, prepare, and instruct on safe work instructions, procedures, and job hazard analyses (JHA's).
- Conduct daily audits and approval of Pre-task plans using the hierarchy of controls to mitigate risk, reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
- Conduct routine inspections and observations to evaluate environment, equipment, and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.
- Prepares and maintains all administrative record keeping and other administrative tasks as needed, such as site safety inspection reports, site audits, observation reports, customer specific site safety documentation and training records.
- Address and document all Safety violations by MEI personnel immediately.
- Provide ongoing safety and health related training and required certifications for existing employees, new hires, and sub-contractors as required.
- Participate in learning teams to develop more efficient processes/methods in support of continuous improvement initiatives.
- dentify and assess conditions which could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluating the potential extent of resulting injuries.
- Work with the Region EH&S Manager on accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
- Develop and maintain relationships with outside firms and organizations such as vendors, OSHA, fire/police departments, etc.
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years proven Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) experience or Safety experience in construction or manufacturing industries.
- Minimum 5 years EHS experience at a multi-site organization.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with OSHA standards.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)- Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:Site Safety Manager - Physical Requirements include but not limited to:
Percent of work time 10% - Office requirements:
- Sedentary work at computer terminal for extended periods of time
- Occasional walking & standing - instructor / facilitator.
- Lifting 20 pounds.
- Bending from waist to table/floor surfaces occasionally.
- Access workspace using stairs and stairs for emergency egress.
- Ascend & descend ladder not exceeding 10 feet (hands to finger dexterity)
- Walking on smooth level surfaces (pavement/concrete slabs/carpet).
Percent of work time 90% - Construction Site requirements include but not limited to:
- Vision - depth perception and color required for employee safety (signaling).
- Vision acuity - correctable for employee safety (crane operations / working from heights)
- Work in and around moving equipment/machinery - cranes, fork-trucks, electric/hydraulic jacks.
- Walking on smooth level surfaces (pavement/concrete slabs/carpet).
- Working at Heights: Walking at or near leading edges (potential fall from heights hazard - balance/depth perception required)
- Occasional donning and doffing of fall protection (harness & lanyards)
- Access work areas and emergency egress from buildings using stairs or ramps.
- Ascend & descend ladder(s) as required.
- Occasional work-related driving (to/from office to work site).
Site Safety Manager - Work Conditions/Environment include but not limited to:
- Indoor and outdoor work
- Work in heat, high humidity and cold weather conditions (direct and indirect sun light)
- Wet weather conditions (rain, snow, sleet and ice)
- *Working in inclement weather is limited based on site conditions and task performed...
- Food, Pharmaceutical, and Electronic clean room environment(s) This can include bouffant caps, hair nets and hoods for the head, frocks or lab coats, aprons, sleeves and coveralls for the body, and shoe covers or boots for the feet, as well as gloves for the hands.
- Wear, for extended periods, a respirator (Cartridge, Air Purifying or Forced Air). Respirator Fit Test required.
