Summary: Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Horticulturist with Irrigation experience. This position is multi-faceted and ideal for someone looking to move quickly in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on installation, repair, and maintenance of campus irrigation systems. Under the general direction of Horticulture Manager and immediate oversight of Supervisor of Ground Maintenance, the Horticulturist - Irrigation will be responsible for daily operation and optimum performance of the campus irrigation systems.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
:- Install, maintain, repair, audit, and adjust campus irrigation systems.
- Grounds/landscape maintenance including mowing, weed management, mulching, tree/plant care and planting, and snow removal.
- Ability to operate standard lawn maintenance equipment, various hand tools and power tools.
- Assist in other areas of the department seasonally as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Education and Experience Required:- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid driver's license.
- 5 years of experience with installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Irrigation certification preferred or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with 2-wire irrigation systems.
- Plumbing knowledge helpful.
- Previous knowledge and experience of landscape maintenance practices.
- Maintain a 40-hour work week; some weekend and afterhours required.
- Basic record keeping computer skills.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:- Must possess visual acuity appropriate for maintenance work and general safety practices.
- Employee will be regularly exposed to water, chemicals, loud noises, dust, dander, hay, etc.
- Frequently exposed to all outside weather conditions.
- May work extended/unusual hours including weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, crouch, stoop, twist, reach above head and climb.
- Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
- Must possess visual acuity appropriate for maintenance work and general safety practices.
- Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
