Job Description:Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, and experienced individual to join our team as a Renewable Energy Development Manager covering projects across the United States. In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Early-Stage Development to generate new renewable and storage investment opportunities across the United States for Deriva Energy and support early-stage efforts to execute on these opportunities by securing project site control and interconnection positions.
Responsibilities:- Able to succeed in a fast pace, dynamic, competitive marketplace:
- Strong understanding of project drivers & competition to deliver project investment opportunities
- Commercial understanding of value and risk drivers related to project technical aspects (interconnection, resource, constructability, design, etc.)
- Ability to effectively negotiate commercial terms with counterparties to maximize value to The Company in a professional and ethical manner (customers, project partners, EPC/supplier contracts, transmission providers, landowners, taxing authorities / entities, O&M contracts, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to identify strategic business opportunities:
- Mitigate risk and successfully structure projects through complementary project contracts
- Perform risk assessments, business impact analyses and strategy selection
- Evaluate applicable laws and regulations to determine project impacts
- Strong understanding of financial drivers
- Strong customer focus & understanding of customer needs:
- Work closely with the customer at all levels of the organization (C-Level executives to procurement personnel)
- Understand customer needs and structure specific business solutions
- Support early-stage greenfield renewable project prospecting to drive growth:
- Manage a development budget and prudently spend company resources to create investment opportunities
- Develop and implement growth strategies
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage project team members and technical subject matter experts:
- Work across functional areas to foster collaboration and cooperation to achieve shared goals
- Provide direction to internal stakeholders such as, engineering, environmental, underwriting, operations, treasury, risk, tax, finance, accounting, insurance, corporate communications, etc. to achieve project goals
- Support the finance, construction, and operations teams to achieve successful project outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with external stakeholders including customers, project partners, local officials, community members, landowners, transmission owners, environmental agencies, regulatory bodies, etc:
- Frequent travel required to meet with key stakeholders
- Spearhead project approvals:
- Prepare and participate in required transaction approval documentation and presentations for senior management approval and deal closure.
- Interact with senior management for reporting, strategy development and execution planning.
Basic/Required Qualifications:- Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering or other related field
- In addition to required degree, minimum four (4) years relevant work experience
Desired Qualifications:- Master's degree
- Utility scale renewables and energy storage development experience
- Experience with interconnection procedures in PJM and Southeastern markets
- Extensive experience collaborating with and leading teams of SMEs
- Financial and business acumen, business strategy, executive level presentation
- Excellent problem-solving skills, optimistic self-starter, entrepreneurial
- Strong knowledge of renewable generation technologies and policy incentives, wholesale electricity markets, interconnection, real estate contracts, tax abatements
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Problem solving, negotiation, project management and implementation skills
Working Conditions:- This role is intended to be located at the Deriva Headquarters office in Charlotte, NC. Strategic locations in wind development regions may also be considered for more experienced candidates.
- Up to 30% travel should be anticipated to conduct site visits and manage existing development projects.
