Job Summary:Designs by Sundown is seeking knowledgeable, energetic, detail-oriented individuals to join our Maintenance team as a Fine Gardener.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:• Installs annual flowers in beds and containers and removes plant material after the season has ended.
• Applies pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers to all applicable annual flowers.
• Maintains form and structure of annual flower installations using deadheading and pruning techniques.
• Communicates effectively with Clients, Fine Gardening Manager, and Client Representatives.
• Assists in the design process of annual installations where needed.
• Assists in various property maintenance activities as required, such as but not limited to: weeding, pruning, leaf blowing, string trimming, etc.
• Operate a truck and trailer to transport materials and equipment, as appropriate
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• In the off season, snow removal, holiday lighting installation, fall clean ups, and other general maintenance services will be required.
Required Skills:• Working knowledge of annual plants and their needs
• Knowledge of horticulture methods and materials, landscaping and cultivation of trees and woody plants
• Ability to use hand tools applicable to trade such as hand pruners, manual hedge trimmer, etc.
• Ability to operate machinery including but not limited to: Leaf blower, String Trimmer, Hedge trimmer, Rototiller, etc.
• Knowledge of fertilizer and/or pesticide applications
• Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
• Valid driver's license and clean MV
Working Conditions:Work requires intermittent physical activity including standing, reaching and/or sitting. Physical requirements may also include lifting, bending, walking, and pushing on an regular basis. This position works outdoors in various weather conditions, including heavy snow and ice. This position has exposure to chemicals and solvents, and possible fumes, requiring protective equipment to be worn. Work requires driving a truck to various job locations. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to client needs and deadlines. This position is considered seasonal and work hours will fluctuate based on the different seasons. During the spring and summer, employees will be expected to work over 40 hours, whereas in the fall and winter hours may dip below 25 per week. The option to go on Job Attached will be given when hours are limited. Employees will still be required to be on-call for snow removal operations during the winter months.
