POSITION: Zero Waste CoordinatorDEPARTMENT: SustainabilityREPORTS TO: Assistant Director of OperationsFLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-ExemptSummaryASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Zero Waste Coordinator for ASM Global/Salt Palace Convention Center. Under the Assistant Director of Operations, the Zero Waste Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the zero waste efforts of the Salt Palace Convention Center as well as working alongside the Sustainable Event Coordinator. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the donation, recycling, and upcycling programs. The position will participate on the Green Team Committee, which includes members from all ASM Global Salt Lake properties and their valued hospitality partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversees the zero waste efforts of the venue through donation, recycling, and upcycling.
- Maintains and improves upon relationships with community partners
- Works with clients to build a zero waste plan and contributes results to post event reporting back to client
- Trains operations crews on zero waste best practices and acts as a supervisor to crews when called upon for events
- Works with event clients, decorators, and exhibitors on proper recycling practices and also helps prevent quality items from hitting the trash stream
- Track, weigh, and log donation data into facility diversion tracker for all incoming donations.
- Works with sustainability department to build and execute a back of house waste sorting operation to be offered to events
- Contributing content for media such as sustainability reports, social media, presentations, and other communications material
- Provide input and content to post event reports
- Assists sustainability department in the creation of annual sustainability reporting
- Other duties as assigned
Experience & Knowledge- Possess knowledge of general sustainability principles, as well as event-industry sustainability standards and certifications
- Must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with local community businesses and non-profit organizations
- Should understand the waste footprint of large events (including trade shows, conferences, conventions, banquets and meetings) and methods to reduce their emissions
- Proven ability to think creatively in an effort to reuse materials and reduce resource consumption
- Proficiency in project management through development and implementation of new and innovative ideas
- Skilled in the use of Google Drive and Microsoft and their catalog of applications a plus
- Proficiency in photography and video capture a plus
- Ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues, stakeholders and facility partners
- Must possess professional demeanor and mature attitude
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Display strong teamwork skills
- Possess strong customer service skills and problem solving techniques
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize projects
Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week, In-Office
Salary: $20-$22/hr
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Weekend Availability Required, As needed based on event scheduling
