Position OverviewThe EHS Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, execution and continuous improvement of the safety and environmental programs for Wanzl North America. The EHS Manager is responsible for regulatory compliance, risk management, safety training, and incident investigations, while leading a comprehensive program that will protect employees from the environmental and workplace hazards and protecting the environment from human or industrial hazards.
This position will be located at Plant 1 in Newton NC and will regularly travel to other Wanzl locations.

Duties and Responsibilities: - Develop, implement and continuously improve Safety and Environmental systems and programs.
- Maintain and administer all OSHA requirements. Serve as primary contact for all OSHA representatives.
- Recommend and coordinate all employee training activities; to include required safety and OSHA training; forklift certification, first aid, etc.; as well as all necessary reporting and tracking requirements. Serve as primary trainer for all programs; coordinate external training as needed.
- New Hire Orientation and coordination of safety onboarding within all departments.
- Lead all safety committee meetings on all shifts at all locations.
- Ensure all equipment operation is in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Prepare all necessary reporting for internal presentation and communication; as well as all external regulatory reporting requirements (OSHA, EPA, NCDH, City/State, and/or other EHS audits).
- Maintain all safety records; administer/maintain SDS.
- Develop, implement, and administer policies and procedures that ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Safety performance metrics; development, tracking, reporting.
- Responsible for all Incident/Accident Investigations, in association with Department Managers. Obtain appropriate accident reports, track action items.
- Work closely with Department Managers and Supervisors to coordinate safety related needs of each department and for all employees.
- Coordinate all safety activities, incentive programs and employee engagement in safety programs.
- Coordinate annual/required safety testing (i.e. hearing conversation program, pulmonary function testing, etc.).
- Coordinate Emergency Response, Fire/Evacuation Drills, and General Safety Procedures. Manage/monitor/inspect fire protection equipment, inspections, risers, fire extinguishers, pull stations, halon systems, etc.
- Manage PPE program; review and recommend types of PPE necessary in the workplace.
- Responsible for compliance with all EPA rules and regulations.
- Oversee wastewater treatment operation and assure that effluent discharge is in accordance with the wastewater discharge permit. Maintain all associated reporting, training, and certification (Grade 1 & 2, physical/chemical).
- Monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage. Manage the disposal of hazardous waste.
- Evaluate workplace ergonomics.
- Complete/maintain necessary certifications (wastewater, hazmat, hazardous waste, forklift, first aid, BBP, AED, etc.).
- Assists HR with management of Worker's Compensation program.
- Assist Facilities Manager with Property Insurance Program (boiler, gas fired burners, etc.)
- Manage/purchase safety supplies as needed.
- Manage annual audiometric testing, air quality, noise levels.
Skills and Experience:- Bachelor of Science degree.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in safety and environmental administration in a manufacturing environment; to include Worker's Compensation and OSHA/NCDEQ/EPA regulations.
- Exceptional communication skills, oral and written.
- Effective planning/organization skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work flexible schedule to accommodate a 3-shift workforce.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Moderate travel within US and occasional Mexico.
