What we are looking for:As the Reforestation Operations Forester, you will assist in the Reforestation Unit with planning, coordinating, directing and monitoring all reforestation and young stand management activities to accomplish goals and strategies of the NW Forest Management Plan, District Implementation Plan, and District Annual Operations Plans. This involves: assisting with budget and AOP development; drafting contracts and agreements; interacting and coordinating with other units in the district, as well as South Fork Adult In Custody Crews, resource specialists, Research Cooperatives and other external stakeholders; and managing data and information systems including SLI.
Minimum QualificationsTwo years of experience in forestry or a closely related natural resource program
and a bachelor's degree in forestry or a closely related natural resource program.
ORThree additional years of related (pertinent) experience.
OROne year of experience in forestry or a closely related natural resource program
and a master's degree in forestry or a closely related natural resource program.
Note: Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver's license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:- Ability to make professional and technical decisions regarding environmental, economic and social impacts resulting from forest activities.
- Manage District reforestation data including collection, storage, maintenance, and accuracy utilizing ArcGIS Pro, Excel, etc.
- Develop and manage GIS data and products related to reforestation plans, projects and activities including creation of contract and SFK project exhibits, documentation of noxious weed locations and treatment, and occurrence of insect and disease locations and management.
- Ability to develop site specific prescriptions for site preparation, planting, animal damage control, vegetation management, pre-commercial thinning, invasive species management, and fertilization.
- Ability to develop cost estimates and tracking of expenditures on a project basis for development of fiscal and biennial budgets.
- Ability to develop objectives and strategies for the Reforestation portion of the Annual Operations Plan and District Implementation Plan that include site preparation, tree planting, animal damage control, vegetation management, fertilization, and pre-commercial thinning.
